5G Meets
Intelligent
Localization

NC SYSTEMS is the 5G solution partner of O₂ Telefónica for the newly launched 5G campus network at HMT Höfer Metall Technik.

Successful Launch of the New 5G Campus Network

At HMT Höfer Metall Technik GmbH & Co. KG in Hettstedt, the new 5G campus network has officially gone live. The project is implemented by O₂ Telefónica and supported with around €1.15 million in funding from the federal and state governments as part of the initiative “Digital Infrastructures in Structural Change Regions.” As a certified 5G campus solution partner, NC SYSTEMS contributes precise localization based on UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology.

The HMT Höfer campus network serves as a pioneering model for the digital transformation of industrial processes in Saxony-Anhalt. With the new infrastructure, production and logistics workflows can be captured, analyzed, and controlled in real time. The goal: increased efficiency, process reliability, and transparency in manufacturing — a key step in strengthening the competitiveness of regional SMEs.

“State-of-the-art digital infrastructures, such as a high-performance 5G network, are an important locational factor for manufacturing companies in the metal industry. The 5G campus network established on the HMT site with financial support from structural transformation funds makes a key contribution to the company’s digital transformation.”

Industry 4.0 in Real Time – More Efficient Workflows and Higher Process Security

The 5G campus network enables wireless, real-time connectivity between machines, vehicles, and assets. Combined with NC SYSTEMS’ high-precision UWB positioning, HMT is creating a digital twin of its production environment: movements, positions, and process states are captured with centimeter-level accuracy. This allows for automated material flows, reduced downtime, and significantly more efficient processes.

Christian Schwarz, Managing Director of HMT, emphasizes:
“The 5G campus network enables more efficient process control and, in the long term, clear cost advantages in production. We also expect improvements in logistics and warehousing.”

Intelligent Localization by NC SYSTEMS

A key contribution comes from NC SYSTEMS with its UWB-based intelligent localization system. The technology enables precise real-time tracking of objects within the plant — such as materials, tools, or vehicles. This creates a fully digital and transparent view of the production flow.

Mallik Rao, Chief Technology & Enterprise Officer at O₂ Telefónica, adds: “By combining local 5G and UWB, new opportunities arise for automated material flows, real-time monitoring, and increased process reliability — a model that can inspire structural transformation well beyond individual companies.”

NC SYSTEMS – Technology Partner for Precise Real-Time Solutions

Through the HMT Höfer project, NC SYSTEMS demonstrates its expertise as a partner for intelligent localization and industrial data acquisition. The company develops customized systems that bring transparency to production and logistics — helping businesses advance their digital transformation in practical, measurable ways.

Stefan Richter, Managing Director of NC SYSTEMS, concludes: “By combining local wireless networks with intelligent localization, a new dimension of industrial efficiency emerges. Our solutions provide the foundation to make processes visible, measurable, and controllable — in real time and with maximum precision.”
