NC FOMS – Monitoring for fibre optic networks
Intelligent sensor technology in glass fibre networks for monitoring passive optical network infrastructures
Efficient Fibre Optic Monitoring
Security and stability for critical infrastructures
Passive optical networks (PON) are the backbone of modern digital society. They form the basis for high‑speed internet, communication networks, and critical data connections—and are therefore classified as critical infrastructure (KRITIS). Yet this importance makes them a potential target for sabotage and manipulation.
To ensure high availability, network operators are required not only to monitor their infrastructure, but also to detect and prevent potential faults early through predictive maintenance. In addition to deliberate interventions such as sabotage, environmental influences such as humidity, temperature changes, or mechanical stress can also jeopardize network stability.
Our solution: NC FOMS – The fibre optic monitoring system.
NC FOMS enables comprehensive monitoring of the passive network infrastructure without additional external power supply. By integrating into the existing fiber‑optic infrastructure, the system remains particularly reliable and ensures maximum operational safety.
With the innovative “Power over Fiber” (PoF) technology, NC FOMS powers sensors directly via the fiber optic cable, enabling low‑loss power transmission over distances of up to 20 kilometers – efficient, sustainable, and reliable.
